Fitness Bootcamps-Best Bet for Fat Loss

Fitness bootcamp workouts are your exercise solution to fat loss. I know that seems like a bold claim, but it’s absolutely true. They are faster. They are more effective. And they’re more enjoyable with fewer tendencies for drop-outs. So if you really need the fat to disappear for good, find the nearest fitness bootcamp and sign up.

Before you attend that first class, it’s imperative that you reset your thinking about exercise and fat loss.  Most of us have heard of the “fat-burning zone”, that magical intensity that everyone strives to reach and hold steady for 30 to 60 minutes (or even longer).  We’ve been told that “zone” is low intensity, long duration exercise.  But it’s a complete misconception!

Now, it IS true that exercise at lower intensities burns a higher percentage of fat compared to higher intensities (which burn more carbs).  However, percentages are not as important as calories.  So let’s look at what this means.

Sally is trying to lose 20 pounds for a goal weight of 135.  She has become a cardio queen, doing 90 minutes of level 2 elliptical training 4 times a week.  Each session, she burns 668 calories.

Becoming frustrated with her stubborn weight, Sally begins training for an upcoming road race.  She finds she enjoys running and works her way up to 9-mile runs, which also takes her 90 minutes.  Because of the higher intensity, she now burns 1110 calories per session.  And the first 10 pounds melt away!

Now it doesn’t matter what kind of calories are burned during exercise.  So already the run seems more effective than the elliptical.  But Sally’s weight reaches another standstill after the 10-pound loss.  Even though she’s extremely disciplined and self-motivated, she decides to hire a trainer (Mike) to kick her into even higher gear.

Mike introduces her to interval training, a technique that is common in fitness bootcamp workouts.  He tells her that the calorie math is extremely complicated and there’s more physiology to understand.  But if she works in intervals, she will lose the last 10 pounds.  And she did!

Basically interval training is so effective because it incorporates cardiovascular and muscle fitness.  By doing this, you can burn more calories during the actual training while saving the time of a second workout.  It also reduces risk of repetitive motion injuries (like from running).  And you stimulate your metabolism for a higher continued fat burn.

In the next part, we will explore this further as High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), the most popular interval training for fitness bootcamps.

  1. It’s all so complicated sounding. I just don’t understand what it is about intervals that work any different then what you typically do. I feel like after the first several stalls I would likely give up, I’d just be to frusterated.

  2. My brain can’t seem to get all the math stuff, but if interval training is where it’s at, then i am all for it! i could never go for 90 min on an eliptical machine (4 days a week) or run for 9 minutes straight, no less 9 miles – yikes! the intervals seem much easier and like something i might actually try and stick with.

Integrating this with fitness bootcamp is a stroke of a genius.
